anne marie skye’s oil paintings
I began working with oil to take advantage of its strong color possibilities and its less fragile nature for exhibitions. The drawback of traditional oil paints is the length of time they require for thorough drying; this can take months. This is a serious one for a traveling artist, so I switched to oil sticks. They dry somewhat more quickly but I lost the wonderful tactile feeling on the canvas of traditional tube oils. Finally, I discovered alkyd oils, paints in tubes, their pigments suspended in a resin that dries in only few hours. Most of the paintings in the album below were done with alkyd oils.
